Herb, Vegetables & Flowers class Repeat

Gary Petterson keeps the gardening class entertaining. Last Saturday was FULL! Join us for a repeat of the Herb, Vegetables & Flowers class this Saturday at 10 AM.

There won't be a repeat of the Iris class.
Iris rhizome class and sale at Gardener's World was a great success.

This is the perfect time to plant irises for beautiful blooms next spring and for years to come. We will continue to sell rhizomes at Gardener's World, as well as the Sun Country Iris Sales at the following locations:

October 17
9am-2pm
Baker Nursery 9am-2pm
3414 N. 40th St.
Phoenix, AZ 85018

October 24
8am-2pm
Metro Tech High School
1900 W. Thomas Rd.
Phoenix, AZ 85015

Some of the iris rhizomes on sale are from the Petterson gardens. These were sent to them to grow for two years and were on the Southwest Region Iris Trek (convention) last spring. These are the latest from the iris hybridizers and sell in catalogues for $40 - $60. These were just dug and are on sale by the Sun Country Iris Society at Gardeners World and at the other sales locations for only $5 each or 3 for $12. Other iris varieties are $4 each or 3 for $10. This is a great bargain!

Gardening Tips:
As temps start to cool, remember to adjust your irrigation timers so you won't be over watering. Refer to our watering guide on our website for more information.

Note: Before attempting to diagnose or treat any problem, be sure to either bring in a sample of the plant (or email us a photo) or a soil sample for verification with our Garden Pros. Also, please remember that we can't see it over the phone!

Green Tip:
If watering with gray water, be sure to acidify with First Step Soil Acidifier. Gray water is even more alkaline & saline than our regular water, & can be devastating to even very mature plants & trees.

Feature Tree: Mulga (Acacia aneura)
Native to Australia, the term Mulga is an aboriginal term for 'shields', which were commonly made from the extremely hard wood of this species. Their growth is highly variable in form & height. In their native habitat, if undisturbed by fire, they can live to be 200-300 years old. They grow slowly to a maximum size of 15' high by 10' wide. Available in 15 G & 24" box sizes.

Feature Vine: Creeping Fig (Ficus pumila aka Ficus repens)
A woody, evergreen, self-climbing vine that is native to East Asia. As the common name suggests, it has a creeping habit and can cover large areas (15-20') of structures if not controlled. It is hardy and fast growing and requires little in the way of care, but can't take full sun. This plant requires the fig wasp Blastophaga pamila for pollination. Available in 1G & 5G sizes.

Feature Flower: Geranium (Pelargonium spp.)
It is found throughout the temperate regions of the world and the mountains of the tropics, but mostly in the eastern part of the Mediterranean region. In Phoenix, they do best in morning sun or filtered light. They should not be watered to heavily & should be fed with Flower Power once every 60 days. Available in 4" pots.
