Gardener's World and Gardener's Eden Landscaping team welcomed many potential clients at their display at the Maricopa Home & Garden show at the University of Phoenix Stadium August 7 - 9. Gary & Sharon Petterson, Holly Banghart and Ray Buchelt (designers) show off our landscape display complete with a variety of plants, fountain and Solara open/close patio cover with stucco or natural stack rock columns. Tumbled pavers, flagstone, and Marbella stone completed the attractive walkways. Gardener's Eden Landscaping installed this in 2 days and tore it all down Sunday night. Our expert craftsmen can install any of this at your place and leave it there!! Flyer specials at the Homeshow are good through 10/31/09-subject to availability. Another attraction was the sales display of Great Big Plants liquid compost that was featured as one of 5 new products at the Home show. Another great seller was the First Step Soil Acidifier to soften your soil and let the water penetrate for deep, cool roots. We know you will be back for larger sizes of both. Gary Petterson was on channel 3 Good Morning Arizona on Sunday morning showing the Solara Patio and Great Big Plants.

Fresh veggies are still available: Onions, okra & Swiss chard (if ordered).

Weekly Gardening & Green Tip:

Fertilize citrus with 16-8-8. Use First Step on areas of standing water to help control West Nile virus carrying mosquitoes. Also use First Step, if you haven't before, for leaf burn. Most importantly, DON'T OVER WATER!! See our website for our Water Management tips (pg. 17). Note: Before attempting to diagnose or treat any problem, be sure to either bring in a sample (or email us a photo) for verification with our Garden Pros. Also, please remember that we can't see it over the phone!

Brazilian Pepper (Schinus terebinthefolius)

Feature Plant:

Turk's Cap(Malvaviscus drummondii)
It ranges from the Texas coastal plain, east to Florida & also to the West Indies, Mexico & Cuba. It reaches a maximum size of 4' x 4'. It prefers well-drained soil & light shade. Its leaves have been used as an emolient and in Mexico the flowers are used in a decoction to treat inflammation of the digestive tract and as a menstrual aid. The marble-size red fruit is edible, having a mealy taste, and is enjoyed by a number of birds and animals. The flowers provide nectar to eager ruby-throated hummingbirds and several species of butterflies. Malvaviscus is from a Greek word meaning "sticky mallow". Available in 1 & 5 gallon.

Yellow Dot (Wedelia trilobata)

Native to the northern part of South America & the West Indies. It's a creeping evergreen perennial that roots at the leaf nodes. The leaves are 3-lobed ovate. The flowers are yellow & daisy-like. Testimonial on our client service & free classes:
"I have had issues with my backyard plants since moving into our new home 2 years ago. Since meeting Gary & Sharon at Gardener's World, my plants have never looked greener & more alive. They introduced me to First Step. This product works wonders. It's very easy to apply & saved me money on all the other plants I've been replacing. Thank you again for the wonderful tips via email & the patience to teach me about my plants. You guys are great!"
